Cottage Pie

Inspired by Adam Ragusea’s latest video on Shepard’s Pie, I decided to make my own with some ingredients I had on hand and order the rest. I also used it as an opportunity to stock up on herbs and spices for my pantry at my new place!

Differences:

  • Mashed potatoes
    • I used cheese curds in my potato top instead of sharp cheddar
    • I kept the potato skins in the mash,
    • I used less butter in the mash
    • I didn’t put egg yolks in my mash
  • I used beef (hence the cottage pie name)
  • I used a chicken stock cube instead of the recommended demi-glace
  • I bungled the method a little by not using tomato paste as I didn’t have any
  • I topped it while it was still hot

My notes:

  • Grating onions sucks. Just chop them instead, IMO
    • Grating the carrots I can get behind
  • Still tastes pretty good!
